The Journal of Clinical and Medical Biochemistry publishes original scientific and specialized articles on all aspects of clinical and medical biochemistry, molecular medicine, clinical haematology and coagulation, clinical immunology and autoimmunity, clinical microbiology, virology, clinical genomics and molecular biology, genetic epidemiology, drug measurement, evaluation of diagnostic markers, new reagents and laboratory equipment, reference materials and methods, reference values, laboratory organization, automation, quality control, clinical metrology, all related scientific disciplines where chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and immunochemistry deal with the study of normal and pathologic processes in human beings.

Journal of Clinical and Medical Biochemistry is successfully running in the Volume 5 which covers a wide variety of specialties reaching out to analytical scientists worldwide.

Medical biochemistry is biochemistry related to human health and disease. Its applicative arm is clinical chemistry, a field that focuses on the methodology and interpretation of chemical tests performed to support diagnosis and treatment. Methodological developments have always been the principal driving force in clinical biochemistry. It first emerged as research-focused field, and it subsequently evolved into an increasingly applicative discipline. The article goes on to reflect on the role of clinical laboratories in contemporary healthcare. It makes the point that contemporary clinical biochemistry tends to support research, rather than lead academically.

This includes examining amongst others the number of cells and cell types, concentrations of different proteins, lipids, metabolites, hormones and vitamins, trace elements, gases, coagulation abilities of blood, enzyme activities, and DNA sequences. The department offers several hundred different tests and perform about 10 million analyses a year.

In the field of medical biochemistry we study how diseases alter the concentration of or add new biomarkers to the blood, that with high precision can tell us what kind of disease the patient has or is at risk at getting, what treatment to give in each case, and how the patient responds to this treatment.
